On October 26th, 2023, Ishmael Reed was honored with a lifetime achievement award from the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Foundation in Washington, DC alongside fellow honorees Carol Anderson and Troy Johnson. Ishmael will receive The North Star Award, given once yearly to an exceptional innovator in supporting and sustaining Black literature.
