Ishmael Reed is being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, presented by the Cleveland Foundation. The Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards have been given out since 1935 to authors who contribute to the greater understanding of racism and the appreciation of human culture’s rich diversity. Ishmael Reed joins a prestigious list of past winners that includes Zora Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, Martin Luther King, Jr., Toni Morrison, August Wilson, Zadie Smith, and Jesmyn Ward.
